PGD, M.A AND Ph.D DEGREE CURRICULUM IN PEACE AND CONFLICT STUDIES, INSTITUTE OF AFRICAN STUDIES
The postgraduate programme of the Institute focuses on the philosophy of teaching the truth about African culture and "Africanness" and situating this in the context of the new global and cultural development agenda.
Objectives
- Develop scholars committed to academic excellence, peace and social responsibility in Africa, the black world, and the broader international community,
- Establish the scope and concept of peace and conflict studies,
- Develop a theoretical framework for analysis of various dimensions of peace and conflict in Africa and world over,
- Promote a critique of existing knowledge in relation to peace structures, security and development in Africa,
- Undertake an intensive and extensive research bothering on global armaments, refugees, migration, banditry, national and transnational crime, wars, conflict over land and other resources, and
- Motivate the students for academic interactions through seminars, attendance to conferences as well as publications in peer-review journals.
MODE OF STUDY
The PGD, M.A and Ph.D degree programmesin Peace and Conflict Studies are based on course and research works to be embodied in a long essay for PGD, dissertation for M.A and thesis for a Ph.D. The candidates admitted in the Ph.D programme are required to take some fundamental courses in the first one year before undertaking his/her research work in line with the revised PG regulations of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
